Description

Pencil on paper composition 12 Edward Teeuw.

You keep looking at this work. Faces in cubist style, with a strong link to African art. This work is never boring.

Lit by the cartoon drawing that Edward often did as a child, his serious passion for painting began around the age of 18. With only a book about Dali and Edward Munch as a source of inspiration in the closet, he started experimenting with acrylic paint. “There was a whole new world open to me, I was not hindered by what other artists already did because I did not know anything about art history about different currents in art, I only had two books about this, everything was new for me.”

The “free period” came to an end when Edward collapsed and ran out of energy to paint. For a while he got nothing out of his hands. Thanks to a good friend who took him to his studio, he came into contact with painting again and regained the energy to continue.

Meanwhile, Edward has developed his style. He works consecutively on the same theme and develops his ideas by experimenting on the theme. We can still see in his current style that his painting career started with the drawing of comics and a book by both Dali and Edward Munch in his closet. Here and there, Edward is not averse to interfaces with Picasso.

Faces in cubist style, with a strong link to African art, play the leading role in his work.
