Titus Brein (1966) trained as a photographer at the Academy of Visual Education in Tilburg. Driven by technical craftsmanship and a predilection for artisan painting from a very young age, Titus Brein is gradually developing a fascinating new form of art photography; photo phusion. This technique, developed by Titus, allows him to explore the limits of the balance between visual reality and fantasy. Contemporary photo, etching and computer techniques are combined by Titus with oil paint, glass, print, linen, paper, ink, textile and precious metal into a new image in which the final artwork gives a surprising dimension to what he has seen for many years with the great masters from previous centuries.
Titus’ photo phusion results in a unique connection between photography and mixed (painting) techniques, reinforcing and liberating each other, without falling into figurative clichés. A 2-dimensional image sometimes becomes 3-dimensional, serene, transparent and dynamic in the sense that light makes an important contribution to the experience of the artwork, which therefore seems to communicate with the viewer. His work contains a beautiful, seductive refinement with a sometimes tangible touch, contrary, monumental, exciting and timeless, with Titus reviving the feeling of the great Dutch masters in the contemporary world.
