The impressive MaMa vase designed by Roderick Vos and made by the Dutch ceramic workshop Cor Unum consists of three parts in which you can place flowers or branches.

The large vase is a unique design object in itself and is also very beautiful to set up without branches or flowers. The vase is available in five different colors: white, black, green, bronze and ‘ugly glazes’: (blue at the top with brown copper stripes at the bottom).

Description

The impressive MaMa vase designed by Roderick Vos and made by the Dutch ceramic workshop Cor Unum consists of three parts in which you can place flowers or branches.

The large vase is a unique design object in itself and is also very beautiful to set up without branches or flowers. The vase is available in five different colors: white, black, green, bronze and ‘ugly glazes’: (blue at the top with brown copper stripes at the bottom).

Roderick Vos draws a lot of inspiration from nature, the organic form of the MaMa vase is no exception: he was inspired by biological structures and cell divisions. The vase consists of three vase-like shapes that merge like a flower. The 1998 design has become an absolute design classic.

When he worked out the design of the vase, his starting point was that he wanted to realize a vase that would be beautiful enough even without flowers to have in view. The vase has a diameter of 33 cm and a height of 43 cm.

Roderick Vos

Roderick Vos is a Dutch designer (1965) who collaborates with his partner Claire Vos-Teeuwen in his “Studio Roderick Vos” in Heusden. During his education at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, he did an internship in Japan, which he says has had a lot of influence on his work. His second internship, with Ingo Maurer (lighting designer from Germany), also made a big impression and has made him what he is: a designer who designs according to the principle that what is beautiful is also good and true (Plato’s philosophy), not just entertaining but with an aesthetic pleasure, strong shapes that are beautiful, good and real …

Roderick Vos and Claire Vos-Teeuwen therefore also like to work with industrial techniques such as glass blowing, welding and casting iron: craftsmanship is one of the most important emotions in a product in their experience.

Works by the studio Roderick Vos can now be found in museums such as Het Stedelijk in Amsterdam or the Design & Arts Museum in New York.
