Description
This beautiful newly designed vase is a wonderful addition to your interior.
Derived from an archetypal vase shape, the flowing form in this new design is subtly interrupted by a network of horizontal and vertical paths. These paths strategically traverse the surface of the vase. The paths show a rhythmic distribution of imprinted dots or actually through drilled holes – depending on the version. Four vertical paths run from bottom to top, traversing two horizontal paths around the vase. Together they form a measured composition, and a tessellation that suggests the idea of a plural whole. This idea is reinforced by the slight kink that follows the shape of the vase, exactly where the paths are located.
Beyond the visual element, these details also tell something about the detailed precision and refinement of craftsmanship. For this, Arian Brekveld developed not only the vase forms, but also special tools for the execution of the series of vases. Custom-made radeer wheels allow the vase maker to roll the paths in the still-wet clay.
“The vases in this series show the fragility of ceramics. In a graphically ordered way. Because it’s as if you can break these vases into exact parts along the perforated paths, like neatly applied breaking lines.”
