In her work, Mickey Philips defies conventions, embracing a trial-and-error approach that often leads to numerous broken pieces. Undeterred by material limitations, she manipulates substances like clay to capture everyday scenarios in liberated forms. For instance, when told that creating a crate with three hundred clay beans was impossible, she proceeded to craft one.

In haar werk doet Mickey Philips niets zoals het hoort. Ze laat zich niet weerhouden door conventies en trotseert de wetten van de materialen waarmee ze werkt. Trial-and-error: liever blijven proberen en heel veel kapot laten gaan. Een kratje met driehonderd bonen van klei? Onmogelijk, kreeg ze te horen. Dus maakte Mickey er een. Niet beperkt door productkennis zet ze materialen als klei volledig naar haar hand om alledaagse situaties te vangen in vrijgevochten objecten.
