The Whimsy Pourer is a distinctive watering can crafted entirely at the discretion of its creators, ensuring that no two pieces are identical. This uniqueness is a testament to the individuality of each can. When ordering through our webshop, you have the option to select the size (large or small), finish (scratched or smooth), and color (smooth: red, yellow, and mint; scratched: red, yellow, and blue). However, the final appearance of the watering can you receive will always be a surprise. Both the spout and handle may be positioned differently, and the “scratches” will vary with each piece.
This design is inspired by a fascination with children’s drawings, which, due to their playfulness and spontaneity, are always unique. For this design, children’s drawings of watering cans were analyzed and used as blueprints, resulting in playful and unique objects. Each watering can is assembled differently and marked with glaze pencils, bringing the original drawings to life. Thus, each Whimsy Pourer retains the creativity and uninhibited character of children’s drawings.
In 2023, Willem participated in the design contest organized by Cor Unum, titled “Keep Playing,” and won second prize with this design.

De Whimsy Pourer is geen doorsnee gieter, maar een object dat vorm krijgt vanuit spontaniteit en intuïtie. Elk exemplaar wordt op unieke wijze samengesteld, zonder vaste mal of strikte richtlijnen. Dit zorgt ervoor dat geen enkele gieter exact hetzelfde is.
Bij het bestellen via onze webshop is er een keuze in kleur, maar hoe de gieter er uiteindelijk uit zal zien, blijft een verrassing. De positie van de tuit en het handvat kan variëren, en subtiele onregelmatigheden, zoals kleine lijnen en sporen van het maakproces, dragen bij aan het karakter van elk object.
Dit ontwerp is ontstaan vanuit een fascinatie voor kindertekeningen: schetsen die zonder vooropgezet plan tot stand komen en waarin speelsheid en intuïtie de boventoon voeren. Willem gebruikte deze tekeningen als blauwdruk en vertaalde hun impulsieve vormentaal naar keramiek. In 2023 werd de Whimsy Pourer bekroond met de tweede prijs in de Cor Unum Ontwerpwedstrijd “Keep Playing”.
Door de gieter met glazuurpotloden te betekenen, blijven de oorspronkelijke tekeningen voelbaar in het eindresultaat. Zo ontstaat een object dat niet alleen functioneel is, maar ook het onbevangen en experimentele karakter van de inspiratiebron in zich draagt.
